WHS Back to School Plan

Due to the recent tornado and the destruction of Wynne High School, onsite learning for the remainder of this school year will take place at the EACC Technical Center.  This plan is ONLY for the remainder of this school year and next year we will return to full onsite in-person instruction.  Below are details for our Back to School Plan.  If you have any questions, please contact us.  Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to complete this school year.

ALL STUDENTS ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND EACH DAY FROM 8:00-3:15.  It is only mandatory that students attend in-person on the days/times required for their specific grades and/or classes.  

Students will attend in-person core classes two days per week and will attend for half a day with advisors each Friday.  The weekly schedule will follow this plan:

  • Monday - All 11th and 12th grade classes meet.  The 9th Honors group (students enrolled in all honors courses) will meet along with 10th grade students who are in Algebra II honors and English 10 honors.

  • Tuesday - 9th and 10th grade classes meet.

  • Wednesday - 11th and 12th grade classes meet.  The 9th Honors group (students enrolled in all honors courses) will meet along with 10th grade students who are in Algebra II honors and English 10 honors.

  • Thursday - 9th and 10th grade classes meet.

  • Friday - All classes meet in advisory for half a day with 11th/12th grade classes in the morning and 9th/10th grade classes in the afternoon.  If you have to ride a bus to and from school you will arrive at 8:00 and leave at the end of the day.  Car riders who must arrive at 8:00 and cannot be picked up will also remain at school all day.

The bell schedule will be as follows for Monday through Thursday:

  • 8:00-9:15 - 1st Period (Attendance and lunch count will be taken.)

  • 9:15-9:25 - Breakfast

  • 9:25-10:40 - 2nd Period

  • 10:45-12:00 - 3rd Period

  • 12:00-12:30 - Lunch

  • 12:35 - 1:50 - 4th Period

  • 1:55-3:15 - Band/Athletics/WYN Time 

The bell schedule for Friday is below: (Friday is considered an academic day.  (Attendance is mandatory.)

  • 8:00-11:00 - 11th and 12th graders will meet with their advisory teachers.  Students may leave at 11:00, or they may remain in school until the end of the day.

  • 12:00-12:30 - Lunch

  • 11:30-1:50 - 9th and 10th graders will meet with their advisory teachers.   Any 9th or 10th grader who chooses may arrive at school at 8:00 on Friday mornings, though class time does not officially begin until 11:30.  

  • 1:55-3:15 - Band/Athletics/WYN Time

Students enrolled in Credit Recovery Classes (Mrs. Leslie Young)

  • MUST attend daily (Monday thru Friday)

Virtual Students

  • Mrs. Kim Thomas will be located at the Wynne Primary campus for all students who are currently enrolled as virtual students. (kthomas@wynneschools.org)

  • No students will be allowed to transition to virtual learning at this point unless students are displaced out of the district.

Student Driver and Student Car Rider Procedures:

  • Absolutely no left turns will be allowed onto Falls Boulevard/Highway 1.  All traffic leaving the Tech Center must turn north (to the right when leaving the parking lot).

  • Car riders should be dropped off at the northwest corner of the building and should proceed into the building immediately.  Students are not allowed to linger in the parking lot.

  • Bus riders will be dropped off at the front doors of the Tech Center.  Students should proceed immediately into the building.  Students are not allowed to linger in the parking lot or outside due to traffic concerns.

  • Student drivers should park in the designated parking area.  Students should enter the Tech Center parking lot at the designated entrance and exit the parking lot at the appropriate space.  

  • Student Drivers and Car Riders will be dismissed at 3:00 daily.

Student Arrival/Lunch/Departure Procedures:

  • STUDENTS MAY NOT ARRIVE ON CAMPUS PRIOR TO 7:30 EACH MORNING.

  • Arrival - When students arrive at the Tech Center, they should report inside immediately.  They are allowed to sit in the lobby or in the large banquet room.  

    • Student drivers and car riders may only enter the campus via the south entrance to the parking lot.  

  • Lunch - Students will eat lunch in the large banquet room.  If weather permits, students may sit outside at picnic tables.  

  • Departure - Student drivers and car riders will exit the Tech Center parking lot at the north entrance and MUST turn right.  Absolutely no left turns will be allowed onto Falls Boulevard. 

  • All students must leave the premises by 3:45. 

Faculty/Staff Duty Stations:

  • All duty assignment times will remain the same.  Faculty who did early morning duty will continue to do so, as will those who have lunch duty and after school duty.  Locations will change, and faculty will be apprised of those changes.  

Activity Period

  • Athletics

    • 8th grade athletics will remain at WJHS with varsity head coaches. 

    • In-season sports will practice at the sports complex.

    • Off-season sports will practice during the revised athletic period.  That site will be determined.  

  • Band 

    • Band students will be transported to the Junior High for band.  Students who are not at school will meet at the Junior High during their scheduled band time.

  • Extended WYN Time

    • ROTC, Choir, and other elective courses (Art, Music, CTE classes) will meet during this time.

Miscellaneous:

  • Mrs. Bailey’s students will remain on campus all day each day.

  • All outside agencies will continue to provide services.  

  • Secondary Career Center students will continue to attend EACC in Forrest City.

  • Concurrent credit students will meet at EACC.

  • Ms. Bailey’s dyslexia students will meet during the afternoon activity period. 

Elective Grades

  1. Students' grades for all elective classes will be determined by using the third nine weeks grades which were finalized prior to Spring Break.    

  2. If a student had a failing grade or would like to work to improve their grade, they may continue to work until the original end of school deadline.

School Events

  • All Scheduled Events will continue to take place

  • Athletic events will begin on Monday, April 10th.

  • Prom will still be held on Saturday, April 22nd from 8 PM to 11 PM at The Barn at Cypress Meadows located at 17925 AR-17 in Cotton Plant, AR.

  • The date of graduation has been moved to Saturday, May 20th at 7:00 p.m.  The site will now be the First National Bank Arena on the campus of Arkansas State University.  Further information will be provided.  

  • The Scholarship (Letter W) Banquet will be held on Monday, May 8th at the EACC Fine Arts Center located on the EACC Campus in Forrest City.

  • CTE Completer Dinner

  • Senior Honors & Signing Day will take place on Tuesday, May 16th.  The location is still to be determined.

  • Seniors will participate in Impact Diplomas and Senior Walk on Friday, May 19th.  Graduation practice will be Saturday, May 20th.  The time will be determined.

  • We still are looking at having Spring Fling.  Currently we are looking at a possible location to host the event.  If a location cannot be secured then there will be an alternate plan.

Nutrition Services

  • Second Chance Breakfast and Lunch will be provided.  All students will be allowed to eat breakfast and lunch at school at no charge for the remainder of the 2022-23 school year, regardless of their current meal status. 

State Assessments

  • Students will still be required to take state mandated assessments.

  • Juniors will take the ACT Thursday, April 20th.  

  • Students 9-10 will take the ACT Aspire on Tuesday May 9th thru Thursday, May 11th.

  • Students 9-11 will take the NWEA MAP Test on Tuesday, April 25th thru Thursday, April 27th.

  • All Seniors will have the opportunity to take the ACT WorkKeys Exam.  The time and date will be announced at a later date.
